The Wilkes Company was founded in 1980 by its Chairman,
Charles C. (Sandy) Wilkes. Berkeley M. Shervin has been a partner since 1988 and is President and Chief Operating Officer.

The Wilkes Company has developed hotels, shopping centers,
office buildings, business centers and warehouses in the District of Columbia as well as in Fairfax, Prince George’s, Calvert,
St. Mary’s and Prince William counties.

The Wilkes Company has maintained a special interest in the East End of Washington, DC. It developed the historic Henley Park Hotel on Massachusetts Avenue NW with Coakley & Williams, renovated and adapted for office use the historic parochial school at St. Mary’s Church on Fifth Street NW, and built the 200-room Red Roof Inn on H Street NW.

The company’s portfolio includes over one million square feet of warehouse space. The company has also assembled sites throughout the metropolitan region and, after subdivision and/or rezoning, leased them to national or regional tenants. Representative holdings include properties leased to McDonald’s, Auto Zone, DHL, Tischer Automotive Group, J. Price International, Altman Parking and The Strong Company.

With its partner Quadrangle Development Corporation, The Wilkes Company is currently developing Mount Vernon Place, a 2.2-million-square-foot mixed use project including several city blocks in Mount Vernon Triangle.

In the planning and design phase is 300 M Street, a 650,000-square-foot mixed use development one block from the
New York / Florida Avenue Metro Station.
